Why he’s running: Whelan said he brings a lot of community involvement and experience, and believes in keeping the city on a healthy fiscal course with no debt. He wants to make sure money is spent intelligently on infrastructure projects and upkeep, which is long overdue.
“The city has done a very good job with keeping (spending) efficient, and I want to continue that,” Whelan said.
He would not like to do anything dramatically different on council, but would like to see the four new council members work together and hit the ground running to keep the city running smoothly.
He said he wants to maintain Centennial as the safest city in Colorado, and spend intelligently on infrastructure, such as widening Arapahoe Road from Himalaya Street to Waco Street.
He said he believes the moratorium placed on recreational marijuana storefronts was smart and that overall, the stores are not good for the community and that his constituents feel the same.
